CANNES 2010 WAS SOMETHING MORE THAN THIS.....FOR INDIA

Every year media goes berserk just over one thing, what was Aiswarya Rai Bachchan wearing at Cannes. Who was the lucky designer to design her outfit? Who is the another heroine from Bollywood giving competition to Ash this time? And this year she was Deepika Padukone.
But Cannes-2010 was something more than this, this time. Media may don't consider it important to give extensive coverage to five Indian films which were screened and nominated at Cannes this time, but I do.These were much more significant than the saris or the dresses of Ash, Deepika or Mallika Sherawat's snakes. These movies truely represent the young and fresh talent, beginning of a new era in Indian film making where it seems no less than international film market.
Indian movies nominated for Cannes 2010 :-
1. Udaan by Vikramaditya Motwani, debutant director
2. Khandhar- a bengali film
3. I am Kalam- story of a young boy with an urge to go to school
4. Kavi- story of a slave boy
5. Last of the tattoed head hunters- a movie in assamese language, the first ever entry from north-east India.

Apart from this Mallika Sherawat's two international projects namely, 'Hisss' and 'Love Barack' were also screened.
SHEKHAR KAPOOR, THE OSCAR NOMINATED DIRECTOR, MADE US PROUD BY MAKING IT TO THE JURY PANEL OF CANNES-2010 ALONG WITH DEEPIKA PADUKONE FOR THE VERY FIRST TIME.

There was lot to cheer about for us at Cannes, right???????

ITS TIME FOR SOUTH AFRICA- FIFA 2010

INDO-PAK RELATIONS....A SOFT APPROACH IS NEEDED

New Delhi, May 26 -- Doctors at New Delhi's Sir Ganga Ram Hospital performed India's first unrelated stem cell transplant on a one-year-old Pakistani boy on March 15. Shaheer Imran had familial HLH, a rare disorder where the body's immune system over reacts and starts eating up its own defence cells.

The baby was in immediate need of a bone marrow transplant. But since he did not have any siblings and had no donor in the family who matched his profile, doctors approached the Reliance Cord Bank in Mumbai.

Two cord blood units matching his profile were procured from the bank. Cord blood is obtained from the umbilical cord of a newborn and is used to treat various blood-related and genetic disorders, as it contains stem cells.

First unit, with a 5/6 match, did not have adequate cell dose, which means there were not enough cells capable of reproducing. To remain on the safe side, the doctors transplanted the other unit (with 4/6 match) as well.

"We just wanted to ensure that if one unit doesn't work, the other one did," said Dr Anupam Sachdeva, senior consultant, department of paediatrics, Ganga Ram. It took Rs 2.5 lakh to procure each cord blood unit, and the entire procedure cost the family Rs 17 lakh. In the United States, the same procedure will cost around Rs 2.5 crore.

IPL TURMOIL- CHIRAYU AMIN AS THE NEW IPL COMMISSIONER

IPL 3 which brought out the face of so called cricketing bonanza to bring out the hidden talent in India. The real story behind this cricketing event of not just cricket but the shackles of money, power and night parties was exposed with the people from the world of politics that is Shashi Tharoor and related to him Sunanda Pushkar, playing the big money games under the shahdow and support of thrilled cricket audience which wanted only entertainment to the fullest.
Lalit Modi is nowhere in the scene now and the responsibility now heads on the shoulders of Chirayu Amin to make this event as transparent and viable without the spots of corruption and hidden but harmful facts for the people of this largest adult franchise so that ipl can live long !!!!

INDIAN HOCKEY BACK TO PAVILION

March 12, 2010 was the day when the Indians were being watched upon by the whole world in the two major sporting extravaganzas. One was our national game and the other for which whole nation dies for. One was something more than just a game which gives the magic of money and power and the other was an effort to prove its worth of calling it a ‘national game’ in front of the whole world. Talking to the people and switching the news channels on the very next day brought my mind to one straight fact – Hockey is back to its pavilion. With people and media going berserk on the exciting win of Bollywood superstar Shahrukh Khan’s IPL team Kolkata Knight Riders over the defending champions Deccan Chargers, we the Indians simply forgot to cheer or just even notice the effort of our hockey team which was fighting for 7th place in the World Cup against Argentina.
The spirit which our countrymen showed in the hockey match against Pakistan was completely dampened with consecutive losses in the following matches. But we cannot sideline the fact that how well 12th ranked team of the world, India performed against the world’s top ranked hockey teams. Rather it needs appreciation because who can forget the past years of controversies related to hockey, be it the black day of Indian hockey when it failed to qualify for the world cup or the sting operation which exposed the hockey officials taking bribe for selection of players or the recent strike of our players on monetary issues, the way Indian team came out of the whole fiasco and performed in the world cup is worth praising. Although the movie ‘Chak de India’ did played a part in reviving the love for our national game in the heart of every Indian but the fact that the World Cup is being hosted by India gave it the that extra cinch of edge and pride for our national game. As expected large number of spectators turned out in the Indo-Pak clash and the stadium was jam packed but as the tournament progressed the sale of tickets dropped down like the remaining balls in an exciting cricket match.
Although India hosting the World Cup was a big boost for the hockey fraternity and hockey lovers but the fact remains that it is still a fade show in front of the money and glamour in cricket which gives cricket a X-factor. It will not be a bad idea if hockey in India to revive Premiere Hockey League (PHL) to redefine its audience and gather the national support. `

SIMPLIFYING 'TWITTER' FOR YOU..... MY READERS

''What is this 'twitting'? Too much 'twitting' will lead to quitting'' was Rajya Sabha MP Venkaiah Naidu's rhyming remark for our 'Twitter Minister' Shashi Tharoor, whose tweets are often picked upon to create a controversy. However, the message told in a serious tone, caused more laughs than to serve the purpose of wanting to probe the minister's tweeting activity.

The MP could have well avoided this awkward situation if only he knew how to make his point using an apt Twitter term. We simplify some oft-used Twitter terminologies for you, with examples:

Tweeple: Twitter people, Twitter
FOR EXAMPLE-Pleasantly surpised seeing IPL and KKR as globally trending topics on twitter. Looks like Indian Tweeple are assuming global proportions

Tweeter/Twitterer: A Twitter user
FOR EXAMPLE: One of my followers is an Indian Recipes Tweeter. I get why I might follow the recipes (sure, why not?) but why would the recipes follow me?

Tweetheart: A special tweeter who makes your heart skip a beat

FOR EXAMPLE: Having sweet chit chat wif my tweetheart! Hooooooh... What a beautiful morning!

Twitterati: Top-tier Twitterers

FOR EXAMPLE: Hia Twitterati - any of you guys own a campervan? Seriously considering one instead of a car. Advice, prices, pros and cons welcome!

Tweetup: A Twitter meet-up in person
FOR EXAMPLE : @ Bangalore airport, en route Delhi. Tight two-day schedule, so no tweetup possibility this time round.

Co-twitterer: A partner who tweets on your Twitter account

FOR EXAMPLE: Stressing for my co-twitterer @at0me... She has to finish her thesis for tomorrow. :-/

Tweet-dropping: Eavesdropping on Twitter

FOR EXAMPLE: @DoctorOHM 10 piercings? Ouch. (Tweet dropping, lol)

Twaiting: Twittering while waiting

FOR EXAMPLE: @sgBEAT:twaiting for NR7 at the bus stop outside TANGS. Lol. It's quite a wait.

Tweeps: Short for Tweeple (Duh.)

FOR EXAMPLE: Help me tweeps! I need 9 more followers! Just 9 more! Thanks & I'll give my new followers a shoutout & I'll follow them back (no random ppl)

Mistweet: A tweet mistake, which one may regret later

FOR EXAMPLE: Of course the problems with a couple of accounts is keeping up with potentially 2 lists of friends. And the chance of a mistweet.

Tweetaholic: A problem of Twitter addiction

FOR EXAMPLE: @cubicile_blues Do you work 24x7 by any chance?? :) you seem like workaholic + tweetaholic :D

Now if only we'd collated this before Naidu made his now infamous comment, he would have probably said - ''Being a tweetaholic and a minister, it's time you avoided the odd mistweet.'' Or is that wishful thinking?

And oh, there are lots more-twittastic (Twitter fantastic), twugs (Twitter hugs), twuddies (Twitter buddies) to mention a few.

KEEP TWEETING...AND SING MY HEART GOES TWEET, TWEET, TWEET

INTERNATIONAL WOMEN’S DAY 8TH MARCH, 2010 – STILL THE FUTURE IS SHADOWED..

As the sun of Monday, March 08, 2010 rose to brighten the earth, history was written in Los Angeles at 82nd Academy Awards. Kathyren Bigelow, the lady behind the magic of the Hollywood super hit ‘The Hurt Locker’ which swept six Oscars at the Hollywood awards extravaganza, came onto the stage to receive the ‘Best Director’ award, a new leaf was added to not much long history of women empowerment which the world and especially the 3rd world countries have witnessed in the past few decades. The first ever woman to win the Academy Award for the Best Director portrayed the best possible example as a salute to the rising woman power. She won this award facing the toughest competition from her ex-husband James Cameron and the man behind the blockbuster ‘Titanic’ and this year ‘Avatar’.
India too made the presence felt of this internationally vital event and rather the much needed day for a male dominated society like India as Air India gave the command of all its major flights to the woman pilots proving against all the present odds we still have come a long way.
The question which really quests a mind to find a hardcore answer is that why, why when we talk of women empowerment in our country, our prime focus remains just on the shells lying on the seashore and not the deep hidden millions and millions of shells inside the depth of the sea which may have the brightest pearls inside them?
In the aura of few thousand successful women in India, why those 200 million women are forgotten who still are miles and miles away from the ‘e’ of word education. You might have seen your neighbor’s daughter or a friend as a CEO of MNC but have you ever boggled your mind over more than half woman occupants who work as low-paid agricultural laborers. If this is not enough let me give you another bolt from the blue that in our country 41 per cent of the girls drop out from the schools till they reach the age of 19.
Menaces like crime against women, malnutrition, tapering sex-ratio, and pre and post natal deaths and not to forget female infanticide and feticides are the hard core elements in a so-called fast developing society of ours. A society where still, a normal housewife does not consider it necessary to open a page of a newspaper and have a look at a current issue or two or more than half of them does not even have any access to them.
A country which dreams of becoming a mighty superpower in the coming decade, does it need a hard pinch to open its eyes? Yes it does, because its future is hinging on those 200 million women who still are so far from the mighty world of education. Rising to 63 percent of female literacy from a shameful 8 percent in 1948, what we can conclude is that it is yet so near, but yet so far to call itself not a masculine, not a feminine but a humanitarian country where males and females are not the parameters for leading a just, fruitful and satisfying life.
Although we have covered a long journey but nearly not enough…
HOPING FOR A BETTER WOMEN’S DAY THE NEXT YEAR….when we may have 33 percent of our MPs as women….

class unforgettable !!!!!!

Our PD classes in 3rd semester was a bundle of joy and surprise for us. But in 3rd sem we got something different from our PD TRAINER MRS. SHWETA KOCHHAR. She offered us a class which we really waited for throughout the week...for 2 hours of learning and enjoyment. Till today we remember AGNI, LAKSHYA, ENDEAVOURS AND PILLARS. One thing we really are happy about is that she made us habitual of eating chocolates....:):):) bribe we expect from all our teachers now. Also she made those students act who never thought they can ever act including me. We remember the day when we got a feast for giving out the superb performance in group plays..of course mam gave the treat. We also remember how she inspired the class to paeticipate in FASHION SHOW BY FASION TECH. DEPT and many students in our had a wonderful experience..thanx for giving that opportunity mam.....
NO MATTER WHAT THEY TELL.....gr8 song that mam taught us.....every student who attended your classes till date cherishes them.....wishing for your happiness and infinite success in future....and hoping you will be taking our classes again..
ONCE AGAIN THANKS A LOT FOR SUCH CLASSES....BJMC-4....THEN BJMC-3

I N D I A - READY TO BE DIVIDED ?

Put a delicious and sumptuous cake on a table with people sitting around it and in just a few minutes it will be cut with all of them enjoying their piece of share. Compare this same situation with our country INDIA and you will find a much similar story. With INDIA emerging as one of the major booming economies of the world every political leader in power is getting intolerant to cut his area of power from this 'Democratic,Sovereign, Socialist, Secular, Republic' which every INDIAN is simply proud to state. Raj Thackrey's statement in the media giving a warning for Maharashtra separation protest has added to the previous agony of Indian government. Be it Telangana issue on which the heat is still on or Gorkhaland and UP separation issue raised on by Mayawati. Although Mayawati is still maintaining a low voice but Chandrababu Naidu doesn't belong to that league. Another issue which India is confronted with since independence is the separation demand by the eastern states like Manipur which consider itself neglected by the central government. Jammu & Kashmir issue also adds to it but here the tiff is being created by Pakistan and not the people of J&K. China, too is not lagging behind in illegally occupying certain land of Arunachal Pradesh claiming that it belongs to it. So from all the directions INDIA is being watched on. LS elections 2009 made all the citizens proud after its successful completion once again proving the tag of the world's largest democracy but its a real disappointment when the people's trusted and elected government is loosing its ability to tackle with these anti-national movements. Every new day a new controversy is created by a person who has nothing to do with the governing power which not only attacks the harmony of the state but also the infringement of our fundamental right and NO action is taken by the authorities??? Whole of the taxi driver chaos happened in Maharashtra and after so many days just a meager inquiry is ordered by the police. Why??

Answer to these questions is strongly required if we want to retain our tag “Unity in Diversity”. Otherwise this economically booming country will soon start getting overpowered with the problematic issues like poverty, ecological degradation, depression which can slowly eat up our country like a termite if our unity is tried to be tampered with because people don't want separation and without the states contributing together financial stability is next to impossible for a developing nation like INDIA.

15TH JANUARY, THE ARMY DAY IN INDIA….IS THIS ONE DAY THE ONLY DAY WE REMEMBER OUR SOLDIERS ???

IF WE CALL OURSELVES PATRIOTIC ITS NOT WORTH IT B'COZ THESE ARMY PERSONNELS KNOW THE TRUE SPIRIT AND MEANING OF PATRIOTISM

INDIAN ARMY DURING THE VICTORY IN KARGIL.....THE MOST MEMORABLE MOMENT IN INDIAN ARMY HISTORY......PROUD TO BE INDIAN....

15TH JANUARY……THE ARMY DAY..A TRIBUTE TO THE SOLDIERS AND OFFICERS WHO GUARD THE COUNTRY’S BORDERS.
IT WAS ON THIS DAY THAT LT.GEN. K.M.CARIAPPA BECAME THE FIRST INDIAN OFFICER TO TAKE OVER AS COMMANDER-IN-CHIEF OF THE INDIAN ARMY. AND AT PRESENT GEN.DEEPAK KAPOOR IS THE CHIEF OF ARMY STAFF. RIGHT FROM KARGIL VICTORY IN 1999 TO THE REPRESENTATION OF INDIA IN FRANCE ON THEIR LAND BY OUR RIFLE FORCES IN 2009. INDIAN ARMY HAS GIVEN US THE JUBILANT PRIDE TO CALL US INDIANS….
NAPOLEON BONAPARTE SAID THAT IF HE CAN GET RUSSIA’S SCIENCE, AMERICA’S MONEY AND INDIA’S ARMY HE CAN BUILD THE MOST POWERFUL NATION IN THE WORLD..WHAT ELSE I CAN SAY FOR OUR INDIAN ARMY WHICH IS ONE OF THE MOST COMBAT-TESTED ARMIES IN THE WORLD AND CURRENTLY IN MIDST OF TREMENDOUS CHANGE DUE TO NUCLEAR ENVIRONMENT AND THE CHALLENGES TO TACKLE THE INTERNAL AND EXTERNAL CHALLENGES.
BUT THE POINTS TO BE PONDERED ABOUT AND WHICH CANNOT LET OUR LEADERS AND THE COMMON MAN REST IN PEACE ARE HERE TOO. DURING THE 26/11 ATTACKS IN MUMBAI WE CAME TO KNOW THE HARSH REALITY THAT OUR NSG COMMANDOS AND POLICE FORCES ARE STILL USING THE OLD AGED AK-47 RIFLES….WHEN WE TALK ABOUT INDIA BECOMING A TECH-SAVY AND THE LARGEST GROWING IT USING COUNTRY…..DOESN’T THIS DEVELPOMENT APPLY TO THE MOST IMPORTANT SECTOR OF A COUNTRY,,,ITS ARMY FORCE,,,ITS PROTECTORS ON THE VERGE OF WHICH SECURITY OF ITS CITIZENS IS HINGING UPON?????????

STRANGE………..
AND NO DOUBT INDIA’S NAVY - THE MARINE ARMY IS TOUCHING THE NEW HEIGHTS WITH NEW TECHNOLOGY BEING IMPORTED FROM RUSSIA THROUGH VARIOUS TREATIES..NO DOUBT ON THAT BUT STILL 26/11 HAPPENED AND TERRORISTS WERE SUCCESSFUL IN ENTERING THE INDIAN BORDERS THROUGHT THE COASTLINE OF INDIA.

BUT THE FACT THAT LIES ABOVE ALL IS INDIAN ARMY IS ONE OF THE BEST ARMIES IN THE WORLD AND DUE TO THEM WE ARE SAFE AND SOUND IN OUR COUNTRY. IN ORDER TO DEFEAT THE FURTHER THREATS IN FUTURE IT IS REFORMING CONSISTENTLY…THE KIND OF PROFESSIONALISM AND COMMITMENT THEY HAVE….THEY TRUELY KNOW THE MEANING OF PATRIOTISM AND NATION-BUILDING…….

WITH DUE RESPECT TO THOSE WHO LOST THEIR LIVES AND THOSE FAMILIES WHO LOST THEIR DEAR ONES

SIGNING OFF FOR TODAY

ABORT THE MINDSET….NOT THE GIRLS

Listen to the voice of an unborn girl :
“Today my existence in my mother’s womb was disclosed. How happy she and my father are. Maybe my parents are selecting a name for me.
Maybe they are deciding to get my room in pink with toys all around. But still they don’t know that I am a girl. My father is advising my mom to go for sonography in order to know whether I am a boy or a girl. If they will come to know that I am a girl, without giving a single thought they will kill me. But I do want to come into this
beautiful world, so
PLEASE DON’T KILL ME DAD,
PLEASE DON’T KILL ME MOM.
Yes, today my topic is “ABORT THE MINDSET, NOT THE GIRLS.”
The day Homo erectus became the Homo sapiens, yes the males, they should have found that they are physically stronger than the females. That day males must have gloated in triumph and they are still today, gloating! No doubt, man has come a long way, he has become civilized, but his instinct to dominate over the weaker sex has still remained intact. In fact, it has become an obsession, a need with time.
There is an old folk song which is sung in uttar Pradesh when a girl child is born into a family:
‘prabhuji mein tori binti karoon,
Paiyan paroon baar-baar,
Agle janam mohe bitiya na dije,
Narak dijiye chahe daar………..’

Which means

‘Oh god, I beg of you,
I touch your feet time and again
Next birth, please don’t give me a daughter
Give me a hell instead……..’

According to the latest survey reports of 2008 conducted by a private news channel (news x), sex ratio in the area of fategarh sahib has further dropped to just 300 females per thousand males which was earlier around 600+.

Despite the government’s attempts to ban the practice of female foeticide, the number of abortions done have increased. Still there are large numbers of women who go for abortions whether willingly or under the pressure of her family. Still there are large number of private clinics running recklessly making people shell out large amount of money for getting the abortions done. The main reason for female feticide is just the mindset of the people who think girls are not important, girls are burden. Boys are more important as they carry the so called family name, fame and business forward. No doubt technology has also played into the hands of devils and the widespread availability of ultrasound has made the doctors and the people more powerful.
People while thinking that boys are more important forget that they are the boys only who turn their old parents out of the house just for the sake of their wives. They forget that if this practice is not stopped now the day is not far when the whole human race will vanish from the face of the earth as it is ultimately the women who give birth to a boy or a girl.
As the world celebrates 11th July as the ‘WORLD POPULATION DAY’, we will helplessly observe girls ‘missing’ from the world’s second most populated country, INDIA. Ironically the theme that has been declared by the United Nations on this day is ‘EQUALITY EMPOWERS’. Well, now you should decide how far we are from this
goal? Is equality empowering in India also?
SORRY TO SAY BUT IT IS NOT SO.
Women are being sold by their own poor parents to land owners in Bihar, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh and poorer areas of west Bengal and Bangladesh which shows ‘demand’ for women in these states due to the already existing shortage.
In the end I would like to write a few lines of the beautiful and mesmerizing poem ‘THE MISSING GIRLS’ written by ZOYA ZAIDI :

‘Where have all the ‘missing girls’ gone?
Gone! ‘gone, to the graveyard’.
For the ages the devils wondered
What to do? How to get rid off
This unwanted girl,
They used pillow on her face
To stifle the scream, the very first scream,
She could not even get to cry,
Suppressed was the very first cry.
Then the technology came, just a scan,
And then, forceps, suction pumps, a bit of crunch,
And the job is done.
In a minute or two, no evidence left behind
All is thrown into a dustbin
Who can say?
There was ever a ‘girl missing’……….
‘Where have all the ‘missing girls’gone?……
‘Where have all the ‘missing girls’gone?…..’

As it is said that a ‘pen is mightier than the sword’, I hope people will consider this effort of mine and they will welcome the birth of a baby girl as happily as the birth of a baby boy.

Climate change can kill ‘a quarter of million kids’ next year

A quarter of a million kids might lose their lives next year due to adverse effects of climate change, warns a charity.

Save the Children insists that figure could rise to more than 400,000 by 2030.

Its report ‘Feeling the Heat’ claims that climate change is the biggest global health threat to children in the 21st century.

Experts believe that almost 175 million children per year are likely to suffer the consequences of natural disasters like cyclones, droughts and floods by 2030.

They further say that more than 900 million children in the next generation will be affected by water shortages and 160 million more children will be at risk of catching malaria - one of the biggest killers of children under five - as it spreads to new parts of the world.

Ultravox star Midge Ure, a Save the Children ambassador, recently returned to Ethiopia 25 years after the 1984 famine, and created Band Aid with Bob Geldof.

“Climate change is no longer a distant, futuristic scenario, but an immediate threat,” the Daily Express quoted him as saying.

“We’ve all heard about the East African food crisis but I’ve been in Ethiopia seeing first hand the impact it’s having on children’s lives.

“I’ve seen how vulnerable children are to the effects of climate change,” he added
