Attitude or constructive attitude?

The youth of today is dancing with joy, placing the gun on the shoulders of just one word ‘attitude’. Even a person with no attitude at all literally is trying to display tons of attitude no matter how unsuccessfully and unnaturally. But the fact is that in reality, they are not displaying attitude, they are flaunting their egos. They are highly misinterpreting the word ‘attitude’ with their ‘egos’ which are actually of no use at all. They fail to understand that attitude is not snubbing of the people without any reason or thinking yourself as ‘raaja bhoj’, when actually you are not capable of being even a ‘gangu teli’. But the attitude is actually realizing that what you are and having the courage and determination to be what you want to. In simple words, attitude is not ego but the self-confidence.
Indian youth, no doubt, have learnt this word, its meaning and its application in their lives from the west, watching the Hollywood stuff and the social networking sites and SMS forwarding the messages related to ‘attitude’. We, the Indians love flaunting our costly handsets and cars and branded wardrobe in schools and colleges, of course why not we when the youth in western countries can? Of course if they have attitude they when can’t we have it? Right. But as it is rightly said, ‘Little knowledge is a dangerous thing’. So it is because we never see the other side of the story that a 15 year boy starts doing part time jobs there and buys a ‘branded’ shirt of his own money and then flaunts it. This is attitude, whereas pressurizing your parents for a 25,000 mobile or a watch, not eating food for days, ignoring them and even screaming on them, knowing that they cannot afford it at that point of time, is sheer act of stupidity, shrewdness and selfishness showing that you don’t deserve your parent’s love which they gave you from childhood. Dude! If you have real attitude go out and work and earn and then even your parents will be proud of this attitude of yours.
The need of the hour is ‘constructive attitude’ which means that work hard and bring out the best in you and ultimately the mouths of the people will be shut. No need to answer them with your words, answer them with your work which will definitely surpass their meaningless words and that will be the ultimate display of ‘constructive attitude’, not the so-called attitude which is called ego. If you are wrong accept it and make it a point to improve in future. Never make your ego a replica of your attitude, these are the two different things, with totally different meanings, while the former can lead you to hell, the other can take you out of the same hell with loads of success.

प्रेस कॉर्पोरेट और सरकार का आइना है, सच का नहीं ???. (इस विचार के विपक्ष में)

महात्मा गाँधी ने बहुत साल पहले ये कहा था कि पत्रकारिता का एकमात्र उद्देश्य है सेवा, लोगों की भलाई है." भले ही आज के इस आधुनिक ज़माने में हम गांधीगिरी के बहुत से उद्देश्यों को अपनी ज़िन्दगी से ओझल करते जा रहे हैं पर आज भी इस दुनिया में कुछ ऐसे लोग मौजूद हैं जो मानवता की भलाई को ही अपने जीवन का उद्देश्य मानते हैं. जिनके लिए एक गरीब और असहाय की दबती आवाज़ को कुर्सी पर बैठे नेता तक लेकर जाना ही सबसे ज़रूरी कार्य है. माना की आज उसी पंक्ति में इन उद्देश्यों से भटकते हुए समीर जैन जैसे औद्योगिक भी हैं जिनके लिए एक अखबार और एक साबुन बेचने में कोई अंतर नहीं है पर कैसे, कैसे भूल सकते हैं हम उन् मीडिया कर्मियों को जिन्होंने जेस्सिका लाल, नितीश कटारा, प्रियदर्शिनी मट्टू, रुचिका गिर्होत्रा जैसे अनेक मासूमों को इन्साफ की राह दिखाई और वो भी तब जब इस देश की न्यायपालिका तक ने अपना पल्ला झाड़ लिया था.

माननीय अध्यक्ष महोदय एवं यहाँ उपस्थित सभी श्रोता. मैं दिव्या गोयल, अंग्रेजी पत्रकारिता कि छात्रा, आज इस वाद विवाद प्रतियोगिता में आप सबके सामने अपने विचार पेश करुँगी. और मैं इस विचार से बिलकुल भी सहमत नहीं हूँ कि प्रेस कॉर्पोरेट और सरकार का आइना है, सच का नहीं. प्रेस कि ओर ऊँगली उठाने से पहले हमें उन अनगिनत हादसों पर गौर फरमाना होगा जिन्हें प्रेस ने बेदाग़ शीशे कि तरह समाज के सामने रखा है.
मुजामिल जलील, इंडियन एक्सप्रेस के वो पत्रकार, जिन्होंने अभी कुछ ही दिन पहले, कश्मीर में हुई २००० से ज्यादा मासूम मौतों को खोद कर निकाला. वो २००० मृत शरीर जिन्हें पुलिस ने ये कह कर भून दिया कि वो आतंकवादी हैं ? अब कहीं जाकर सरकार ने उन मृत शरीरों कि डीएनए जांच के आदेश दिए और बरसों से बिलख रहे परिवारों को उन्हें लौटाने का फैसला किया. यह सच का आइना नहीं तो और क्या है? कैसे भूल सकते हैं हम जे . डे. जैसे पत्रकार को जिसने अपनी जान कि परवाह किये बिना अन्डरवर्ल्ड के कुछ ऐसे कंपाने वाले सच बाहर निकाले कि छोटा राजन गैंग ने दिन दहाड़े उसकी हत्या कर दी. सिर्फ भारत ही क्यों, पाकिस्तान, वो देश जो सर से लेकर पाँव तक आतंकवाद की बेड़ियों में जकड़ा हुआ है, वहाँ भी सईद सलीम शाहज़ाद जैसे पत्रकार को मार दिया गया क्योंकि उन्होंने अल- कायदा और आई .एस. आई के बीच पनप रहे रिश्तों का खुलासा किया.
मीडिया ने पिछले कुछ सालों में एक नए दौर को जनम दिया है जो है विकास शील पत्रकारिता यानि की डेवेलोपमेंट जर्नालिस्म. जिसमे हमारे समाज के कुछ ऐसे पहलु सामने आये जो अब तक नकारात्मक पत्रकारिता के नीचे दबे थे. इंडियन एक्सप्रेस के संतोष सिंह ने बिहार के दूसरे रूप से हमें अवगत कराया तथा उन्हें उनकी रिपोर्ट 'मोडर्न मुखिया' के लिए 'स्टेट्समैन अवार्ड फॉर रुरल रिपोर्टिंग' से नवाज़ा गया. वहीं हिंदुस्तान टाईम्ज़ की शालिनी सिंह ने धड़ल्ले से हो रही गैर कानूनी माइनिंग गतिविधियों का पर्दाफ़ाश कर मीडिया की गरिमा का उदाहरण दिया.
अगर अभी भी हमें ये मानना गलत लगता है की मीडिया सच का आइना है तो हमें याद करना होगा साल २००१ को जब हिन्दू समाचार पत्र के पी. साईनाथ ने यह साबित किया की किस तरह आंध्र प्रदेश में १८०० से ज्यादा किसानों ने आत्महत्या की और किस तरह एक किसान की बीवी कर्जा उतारने के लिए वैश्या तक बन जाती है. जबकि सरकार तो यह तक मानने को तैयार नहीं थी की किसान आत्महत्या नाम की कोई चीज़ इस देश में होती भी है.
जब कारगिल में अपनी जान न्यौछावर कर देने वाले शहीदों के कफ़न तक को राजनीति ने नहीं बख्शा और जानबूझ कर २ करोड़ के महेंगे कफ़न एक अमेरिकी कंपनी से खरीदे गए तब मीडिया ही था जिसने उस समय के रक्षा मंत्री जोर्जे फर्नांडेस को इस्तीफा देने पर मजबूर कर दिया. कौन भूल सकता है उस समय को जब २००१ में तहलका ने बी. जे. पी. के लक्ष्मण बंगारू को खुलेआम घूस लेते हुए देश के सामने दिखाया. पर उसका क्या परिणाम हुआ ये आप भी जानते हैं और मैं भी. सरकार ने तहलका के सारे दफ्तरों पर हमले कराये तथा धोखाधड़ी के झूठे केसों में फसाकर तहलका को नष्ट कर दिया. पर सच्चाई का तूफ़ान ऐसे नहीं थमता और २००३ में तहलका ने लोगों के सहारे से मज़बूत वापसी की.
और अब भी हम यही कहेंगे की मीडिया सच्चाई का आइना नहीं है?
एन. डी. टी. वी. का बड़े कॉर्पोरेट हाउस विडियोकान से जुड़ना और उन गावों में बिजली पहुँचाना जहां के लोगों ने स्वतंत्रता से लेकर आज तक अन्धकार को ही अपनी किस्मत मान लिया, एक मिसाल है इस बात की, कि अगर कॉर्पोरेट का पैसा और मीडिया कि विचारधारा एक हो जाए तो वह समाज के लिए क्या कुछ नहीं कर सकते.
अंत में मैं मार्गरेट मीड्स कि सोच से सहमति रखते हुए यही कहना चाहूंगी कि कभी मत सोचो कि कुछ चुनिन्दा मेहनती लोग देश को नहीं बदल सकते, बल्कि आज तक वो चुनिन्दा ही हैं जो दुनिया को बदलते आये हैं.
और इसी विश्वास के साथ कि वो चुनिन्दा लोग आज भी मीडिया में मौजूद हैं मैं यही मानती हूँ कि प्रेस सच का आइना है, कॉर्पोरेट या सरकार का आइना नहीं.

Euthanasia- India needs to give it a serious thought now

All credit and applause to Sanjay Leela Bhansali for making the Indians familiar with the very vital and significant word called ‘euthanasia’ which the Indian law has never got in sunk with. We watched the film ‘Guzaarish’, showered the heartily praises for Hritik as Ethan and the Director who so beautifully portrayed the things on the screen; pondered on the issue for not more than fifteen minutes, clapped and the drama was over. After all, why to get burdened, it was just a film!!!! Right?
Nobody knew that after the country wide appreciation for Guzaarish, a real life ‘Guzaarish’ is on its way to knock the doors of the India’s highest judicial body- The Supreme Court. Aruna Shanbaug, the lady whose plea for euthanasia has been rejected by the SC, 37 years ago was brutally tied with the dog chains and raped which totally damaged her brain nerves and from the past 37 years she cannot hear, speak, walk, communicate or probably do anything which can term her as a ‘human’, the condition being termed as a ‘vegetative state’.
Fifteen minutes are too less for a case like that of Aruna because unlike her, Ethan was at least able to talk and communicate well with his people; then certainly Aruna- the real fighter fighting with God to grant her peace for the past 37 years on bed deserves a better, careful and deep thought of the Indian lawmakers. A country where the millions of patients die without getting any access to treatment and cry for help- the question is that why the people who have no scope to live a life again are forced to live a lifeless life and those who can be saved are plunged into the mouth of death due to the idiotic reasons like shortage of the beds and medical facilities.
Now the next point that arises out of this rarest case is the allowance given to passive euthanasia by the law. Who can argue on the point that the passive euthanasia is better than the active euthanasia? It is the same because in active euthanasia you are intentionally doing an act to kill the person and in the passive euthanasia you are not doing anything to save that person. Rather if we have give it a deep thought, then the passive euthanasia is a bigger violation of humanity because then you are leaving that person to die mercilessly stopping his food, treatment and other life supports. At least in active euthanasia you are instantly putting that person to peace by injecting the drug. So it is a million dollar question as to why the countries like India, US, UK do not consider passive euthanasia as a crime? Or why then they don’t legally approve the active euthanasia? Or why they criminalize the both?
India certainly needs to take one clear stand on euthanasia because it is not the first time that a sensitive case like this has boggled the minds of our lawmakers. In 2008 also Nikita Mehta, demanded the death of her unborn child in the womb who was diagnosed with severe heart blockages and the baby’s birth will be nothing more than a lifelong punishment for the child. The empathetic mother, who demanded a respectful adieu to her baby and faced the dismissal of the petition by the High Court which termed case similar to mercy killing, luckily had a natural miscarriage.
So finally the time has arrived for this nation with 100 crores plus population to take a single and firm stand on euthanasia and go through each and every case minutely keeping in mind its own complexities and the condition of the patient fighting not for life, but for death. Quoting our very own Ethan’s lawyer Devyani Dutta, “If a person has right to live, then he has the equal right to choose not to live.”
